Directions Unit: The Director Prep Project Research
Cast
Dead Angel: The same Little girl in the photograph shown in the photograph in scene six. I can imagine her to be played by a 12 year old girl with blonde hair. Someone like Ramona Marquez known for playing Karen in Outnumbered, or Margaret in The Kings Speech. When it comes to the angel, she will be using white makeup and will be edited to look ghostly in After Effects.
Eddie Dunford: Eddie is described as : “youthful, ambitious, libidinous. Elongated shirt collar and kipper tie.” So the actor would need to be young, preferably early 20s. I would probably cast Thomas Brodie-Sangster, known for his parts in Nanny McPhee, Stig of the Dump etc. He would be perfect for this part given his age experience, and visually I can picture him to the part
Bill Hadley: Bill is described as having a “grey beard, grey eyes”. This description is relatively open, but given the probable age range of 50+ I would most likely use Larry Lamb. He seems suited to the part, and I believe he would get on well with the other actors.
Detective Superintendent Maurice Jobson: Jobson is “an owlish, bespectacled man” . In order to fit this description and dialogue, i would say Jobson is a middle aged man. Its difficult to know what actors would pull off that ‘owlish’ look. I can possibly see Christopher Eccleston playing this character.
Crew
Director of photography:
Bharat Nalluri- Nalluri has a style of his own, where he applies cultural elements and his surroundings to his work which can be very useful for a naturalistic approach. I would intend for the piece to be as naturalistic as possible, which is how I perceive it to be after reading the first five or so pages of the script. Its clearly a setting many audiences can relate to. Nalluri is well experienced in directing a serious piece, and with his experiences in filming flashbacks in BBC Television Sitcom Life On Mars, He could have some cool photography ideas for the angel. Life On Mars is also an authentic piece, where most scenes are set in 1973 so he would be able to capture the setting of 1974 in red riding, given the similar era.
Production designer
For the production designer I would use Grant Montgomery. Grand has been a production designer for Peaky Blinders which has a very historical context being its 1919 setting. The Production design for this programme is very detailed, and of the time. Its very clear visually when the piece is set.
Conference Room, Wakefield Police Station.

Composer
The composer I would chose in an ideal world would most likely be Quincy Jones. Quincy is known as a record producer, conductor, arranger, composer, musician, television producer, film producer, instrumentalist, magazine founder, entertainment company executive, and humanitarian. As a composer, he would be suited to this. Much of his music is iconic, including the theme for The Italian Job.

Editor
For the film editor I would chose Chris Dickens, editor of Sean of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Slumdog Millionaire and Les Miserables. His style is very unique depending on the theme of the film.
Locations
Devils Ditch Construction Site
Devils Ditch Construction Site
For the opening scene location I would try my best to find a housing construction site, halfway through works going on. This site will therefore have unfinished buildings with scattered work vehicles. This site would preferably be in leads but it doesn’t matter too much, most construction sights look similar regardless. It depends on the travelling of cast and crew too, budget and expenses. Using a set for this scene would be difficult for a small budget so would need to be on location.
M1
Scenes filmed on the motorway could be filmed on any British Motorway. However, the M1 would be preferable The M1 is a south-north motorway in England connecting London to Leeds. Given its set in Leeds, and the M1 is based there it would make more sense.
The conference room could be one of any police station. Given all the actors will be in the Leeds radius anyway, it would make sense to use an actual conference room in a police station, preferably one that is no longer in use. Failing that, council building can often give a similar appearance. The Medway Council have conference rooms that look live they could be inside a station.
