Documentary Unit: Interviewees

Shahak Shapira- (Artist)

Shahak is well known for his opposition to extremism and his website “Yolocaust” where he photoshoped pictures of people taking selfies or inappropriate pictures at the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin. People had been taking pictures of themselves doing Yoga or Juggling whilst some teens had been jumping over the concrete slabs, one even captioning his picture “Jumping on dead Jews”. His website was visited over 2.5 million times and all twelve people who were in the pictures reached out to Shahak to apologise, one stating that he was an idiot and just trying to make a joke which was in very bad taste.

David Glenwright (Social Media Expert)
David Glenwright is a social media expert, working as the Head of Training at JC Social Media, with a background in War Studies.  David is our main expert for this documentary who will be talking about the theories behind selfie culture and social media. In his interviews he offers solutions to people; his theories are interesting, and feasible.

Holocaust Survivours- (Miriam and Ziggi)
Zigi Shipper and Miriam Freedman are two Holocaust survivors and arguable the most important interviews that we got. I found them through Jewish Care. Ziggi spent 5 and a half year in different concentration camps and Miriam was in hiding during the holocaust to avoid capture. We were interviewing them to talk about their opinions of our generation, which were interesting; they believe we are the most important ones who can make a change. We also want ti find out if they find the selfies disrespectful.

Christoph Kreutzmüller- (Jewish Museum, Berlin)
Christoph Kreutzmüller is the curator for the permanent exhibition at the 'Judische Museum' in Berlin. He’s well known for his vast knowledge on the Holocaust.
Our aim with his interview was to find out more about what Germans thinks about selfies taken at places such as the memorial. To see if they find it as disrespectful as the holocaust survivors as a point of comparison.

Holocaust Memorial (Visitors)
We went around finding people sitting on and taking 'inappropriate' pictures at them mortal to get peoples opinions and to see if they know where they are or even think to consider what they're doing. The interviews are interesting and very insightful to the overall structure of the documentary.
