Commission: Asking for Feedback and generating more ideas to overcome obstacles
Although my promotional video isn't yet finished, I took it on myself to try and gain some feedback from different teachers at uni. I felt this sort of primary research would put a fresh set of eyes on my work and notice things that I yet haven't. Because I've been working on and watching back the video so many times, small errors or parts that can be improved I might not have noticed.
Firstly, I spoke to Fergus. I asked him to take a look and see what his opinions were and where it may have needed improving. He was really pleased with he way it was looking and thought my animations and editing skills had really pulled the piece together after having so many problems. The only thing he criticised was exactly what Helen did, and that was the introduction; it doesn't establish the company. I did explain my idea behind the television screen with an animation of the logo graphic, which he then agreed would be a really good solution.
I then went on to discussing with Ferg my idea in overcoming the fact that my archive footage was of low quality and how its all that was available to me. The way I wanted to overcome this was to edit in after effects a projection of a montage of previous shows filmed at the studios onto the exterior of the studios. This means the quality wouldn't be as bad or noticeable to what it would be if it was the focus and took up the whole screen for a segment of the video. However, this is risky and time consuming. It would only look good if it was done exactly right using the right softwares beyond Adobe.
It was when discussing introducing the video with a logo and talking about this graphic that I came up with on the spot the idea of having the montage playing through the logo at the start of the video on the old television as there is a slow zoom in. This could look really effective, be potentially easier and really emphasise the companies new branding. In the 1950s the "General Electric Company enunciated a policy declaring that "Marketing begins with the consumer""(Power of MarketingBy Nelly Nailatie Ma'arif). This means marketing is all about what the consumer (television content creators) want to see and want to get out of the studios. The branding is therefore important and a logo will usually give off connotations on what the company is about and what it does, even if its subtle. An example of this is with 'Amazon', who in there logo have very carefully done an arrow pointing from the A to the Z, which show that they sell everything form A-Z.
"The Amazon logo is an extremely simple logo and while the arrow may just look like a smile it actually points from a to z. This represents that Amazon sell everything from a to z and the smile on the customers face when they bought a product." (Thardy (2016)
With this in mind, the branding of the logo would show they do television if there is a montage of well known television shows playing through the logo before reaching the logos final colours. I could even have a low opacity color graph of the logo colours as a layer above the shows, or it could fade into this as the camera gets closer. Ferg really like this idea and said it would work well in coordination with the rest of the style of the video; it really fits in with the style of the rest of the video. Its a clever way of showing famous shows filmed there and really making those shows feel closely involved with the studios.
