As Live Production: Multi-Camera Studio- Case Study Jeremy Kyle
The Jeremy Kyle Show
The above YouTube clip is an extract from this episode. From this you can see it is a simple setup with a main stage and a couple of chairs (more added depending on guest size) and then the studio audience behind the main floor cameras facing the stage. At the beginning of the show, Kyle talks to the audience at home using camera autocue. Autocue is something we are unable to use in our studio production 'Steal the Style' as our budget doesn't stretch that far. Autocue is used for many broadcasters, including channel 5, the BBC and Chanel 4. "For the last 20 years or so, Autocue has been the exclusive provider of teleprompting services to all BBC News programmes, including BBC News, World News, Newsnight, Marr on Sunday and The Politics Show. There is also a camera facing the audience that catches their reactions when Jeremy reveals what coming up in the show. They have a camera mounted to a crane (see image below). This camera would capture all the high angles and all the wide shots. There are also close-ups of every person on set. The show also has cameras back stage catching initial reactions from things that have been said on stage (usually shot on handheld).

When the show starts you can see the audience (usually a wide or crane) accompanied by a wide of Jeremy Kyle entering stage. When he gets to stage left there is a wide shot which gradually starts to zoom in as he introduces todays story. The first guest of the show comes from back stage so the camera focuses on her and tracks her as she goes to sit down from the stage left stage.
Having worked on 'Watchdog'I was able to see the set for Jeremy Kyle first hand as it is filmed in the same studios (Dock10 Studios, Salford, Manchester). From this I found that the rest of the set around the scenery is the same as any studio which makes me feel like we at UCA have such an advantage that we are able to study this unit and produce our own show in an industry used and standard environment.
