As Live Production: Fashion Shows Research
This week we had Del's first session with use where we looked into the varieties of fashion programmes. This ranged from stylistic shows to telly shopping. The examples we looked at included Lorraine, This Morning, Fashion TV, QVC Style, and The Clothing Show. Some I had seen before and others are new to me. One that surprised me was 'Fashion TV' which is just a 24 hour stream of cinematic of people showing off fashion, something very different to the style of show we were going for for 'Steal the Style'.
Lorraine has popular content and still place on our screens currently. Like any show it has had its controversy. In 2017, 'The Sunday Express' comments:
In the shows style, it shows branding at all times, using the logo, twitter name, and the time in the branding/ theme colours.A homely set up with a digital screen behind Lorraine and the guest to allow the audience and presenters to see what is being discussed. When an image is discussed, the image will be blown to full screen for the viewers at home to see, which then shows this shot. This show covers on a broader variety of topics, whereas 'Steal the Style' will cover purely fashion, so its set would need to reflect this.
One thing we will probably add will be more on-screen graphics as this will allow the audience to informed further. I wouldn't say that there is anything that we won't want to use from Lorraine as it seems to be on the same level as our show.
Lorraine
Lorraine is a daytime television chat show that covers various normal elements of everyday life. Lorraine leads the show and discusses storylines with professionals, has a segment for food as well as fashion. Given the time its broadcast, the target audience is daytime telly viewers, typically middle-aged and above who will be available at that time (often stay at home moms). Looking at one particular fashion segment, we can see what features they use and then see if any will help influence our ideas in regards to 'Steal the Style'. Steal the style I had an initial feeling it was to be broadcast at this sort of time given its tone and style. However, today we established it would be more of an evening show.Lorraine has popular content and still place on our screens currently. Like any show it has had its controversy. In 2017, 'The Sunday Express' comments:
"Lorraine Kelly branded a 'FAKE' as viewers DESTROY format change"
The article says "Russell explained that he wanted to stay in the studio and tuck into a croissant, until the 57-year-old host was left shouting that they were not real." This is such a small conflict and early worth an article in my opinion, however it does go to show the type of audience this show has.
One thing we will probably add will be more on-screen graphics as this will allow the audience to informed further. I wouldn't say that there is anything that we won't want to use from Lorraine as it seems to be on the same level as our show.
