As Live Production: Quality Assurance Research

I believe that the key to being a director is to really be original in my approach to ensure quality.  This is something the entire production team needs to ensure. In production, a quality assurance plan will always take place wether big or small.
Having low resolution images and videos would instantly bring the aesthetic quality down. “A video production can go from top quality to a cheap video.” ('Importance of Lighting in Video Production', 2014).

An obstacle I came across when trying to commit to this was the old to new section. I had the idea to do how Churchills Siren Suit has evolved into other clothes like jump suits etc. In order to show this in a VT, we would need permission to get images or videos of Churchill in the Siren Suit which could be very costly and difficult to get hold of. On top of that, copyright laws can be very complex and could be more trouble than what it's worth.

"Copyright law is one of the greyest areas on the internet" (Smith, A 2015). Thus I need to be especially careful with the clips I use to ensure I’m not infringing any copyright laws since its very subjective to what I can and can’t use. It’s always good to set the bar high, and I made a strong commitment from the very beginning to have a gate to filter through only high quality footage. 

I started to brainstorm a multitude of ideas to overcome this. Perhaps just having an interview with an expert working at Chartwell (Churchills now National Trust House) but then this might not fit in very well with the tone and context with the rest of the show. It's important to appeal to an audience and not throw stuff in there that could attract a completely different audience who wouldn't necessarily be interested in the rest of the show. "In order for people to "buy into" a product or service, they need to relate to the tone and content of the message." (Lake, L, 2017)

Audio quality is very important to a piece of video; "The audio is usually neglected because of the misconception that the success of a video production highly depends upon the quality of video." (Harrel, S.). So we need to ensure any music used in the studio or for VTs, Promos and graphics are of a high quality whilst ensuring that its copyright free.

In today's workshop we were split up into groups and given a one page script and asked to film two characters discussing the 180 degree rule . The key to this task was understanding this rule and applying it. The script was a very basic duologue; the two characters come together, sit down across from each other and have a small conversation until one leaves at the end after understanding the 180degree rule. Pre-Production: Professional Practice Interviews

During the summer, I was lucky enough to be asked to take part in a work experience programme being offered to by production company 'Bareska'. In this, myself and three others were given free rein of a professional client project. I was the Co-Producer/Director/editor. I agree to do this project as it was ad-hoc- so a project I was able to work around uni and work and was also a fantastic opportunity for me to practice for my third-year major project, even if I didn't end up doing a documentary. This was fantastic practice in pre-production, directing and just speaking with contributors about a secretive subject. News Production: DIY Tech

I am working in a group with Jack, Gavin and Simon and today we had a brainstorm after our unit briefing to find out what we could make a news channel on. We really liked one of the examples of the work of previous students who's target audience was students. We found this something that we could relate to ourselves so would be something we would be passionate about and take an interest in. Our first idea was to base it on university courses where students are made to pay for their own materials rather than the universities providing it. It was also about students taking courses in nursing and how there has been a significant drop in people choosing such courses as a result of the rise in uni fees and having their funds cut (previously the government would fund those degrees).
