Pre-Production: Brandig and Promo Inspiration

Image
Hunted  "sees a group of average Brits attempt to disappear with a team of expert hunters to test their ability to go truly off-grid." ( https://www.itsnicethat.com/articles/channel-4-hunted-bold-and-bold) Channel 4's Hunted was a big inspiration for the marketing and branding for my pilot 'What I am.' I love how they almost made the show seem real to everyone by telling them to hide their face and never call their family. It really brought the show together and also helped portray the fact that it is. a real setup. with real investigators. It really would've engaged peoples curiosity, especially in. London where everyone is so busy and fast paced. This programs advertisement is very effective and sparked quite the reaction forth public. It already got people talking. I would love to do something like that with the branding of my Pilot to really engage people. This is why I have created this face morph which would ideally be advertised aro...

Pre-Production: Research Programme- Who Do You Think You Are?

Image
A point of inspiration for this idea is BBC television series 'Who do you think you are?' where celebs look into their background and family history. It's a point of interest and looks into how they got to where they are today. Some attributes they have for example their ancestors also have and has carries the genes. Whilst my show doesn't go that far back and focuses more on the individuals upbringing, I still found the format of this programme and important point of discussion for research. "In each episode, a celebrity traces their family tree. It is made by the production company Wall to Wall. The show has regularly attracted an audience of more than 6 million viewers. More than ten international adaptations of the show have been produced." (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Who_Do_You_Think_You_Are%3F_(UK_TV_series). This programme us clearly as success with such high viewings and is a really interesting concept bound to draw audiences in with its interes...

Pre-Production: Elevator Pitch

Image
The following is an elevator pitch for this television pilot. We have tried to keep it down to 37 words just to keep it brief and straight to the point. To make it shorter we could cut down the last line but we thought it best too keep it in just to show how this acts as a campaign to the younger generation. With economic hardship, high levels of unemployment on the horizon, there is no better time than now to really captivate the people who will shape our future.  Well known faces within the British media each embark on individual journeys to answer some questions in regards to their own success. A show to inspire this generation into believing they can be anything they want to be. An elevator pitch is typically used in industry to be able to sum an idea up briefly in two lines. If you can't do this, then the idea is overly complicated and needs more work.  "An elevator pitch (aka elevator speech, elevator presentation, or elevator story) is several things. Of course...

Pre-Production:Marketing/Branding

Image
My intentions behind this specific marketing scheme is to really draw people in and capture their imaginations. Even if our Dynamo idea is unsuccessful, I feel the branding can give inspiration for any further ideas or if this evolved or develops into something else. Even if the Dynamo idea isn't something we actually have as our main idea, the concept behind it would apply to other concepts. I found this video guide really helpful in learning the effect: The Editing Process: First I needed to remove the background of the original image by cropping the photo. The original image of Dynamo as a child was also facing the opposite way of the one where he is an adult. In order for this face morph effect to work they need to be facing the same way so its more fluid and more effective. Once I was happy with both images the process of morphing them in Adobe After Effects begun. Once I had imported both photos into the software, I placed them onto the timeline and matched ...

Pre-Production: The Package

For this unit I have decided to pain up with Jack in creating a practice pre-production with an idea I had floating about for a long time, but not something achievable on a student project. I was really glad of this as it will enable me to practice pre-production on a high end, professional level where I can look into all the planning efficiently and effectively. I want to be able to make this project come to life without actually doing the impossible (that is making it). It actually started off as a proper initial idea for my major project and after trying to plan ahead in the summer by emailing around to put feelers out I had little to no response and realised it wasn't an idea I could actually pursue. However, the pre-production process is just as enjoyable as production and post as it builds up this excitement. How it starts with an idea and I can now see how far I could take it whilst enjoying all the planning of this original idea. I will be working on pre-productio...

Pre-Production: Meeting with Simon Update

After researching further into the Shergar idea me and Jack have decided to put it on hold for this unit. The reason being is actually something that stuck in my head from my meeting with Simon which inspired me. He told me that the reason I have been successful with previous projects was because I went the extra mile in projects and managed to be ambitious whilst achieving what I set out to do. Personally, Shergar wasn't really doing this for me and I felt it wasn't so adventurous despite being an original idea. If I was ambitious with the pre to production for a mock commission, then I may have a stronger understanding of how I can pre produce ambitiously where there is no limit. It was time to go back to the drawing board and I had another hypothetical idea in mind.....

Pre-Production: Meeting with Simon

Today I had a one on one meeting with Simon to discuss my project for this unit to see if it had value and was a well established idea. The meeting started off discussing my final grade for first and second year and to see where I need to improve in order to achieve a final grade I am happy with. I then went over my idea for Shergar and Simon liked the idea but I needed to work out the ethics behind making a short film/documentary on true events as everyone has the rights to their own story. Alternatively I could base it around something real but make it fictional. I needed to research after this meeting how do you go about making a story about a factual event. The ethics and what you have to do to make your own so not infringing on peoples rights, the protocol of developing- rights research. I found the best way would be to fictionalise but draw on some truth. After researching into many other films based around true stories I found some are very accurate to a true story and othe...

Pre-Production: Shergar Idea

Image
When researching into project ideas I decided to watch television programmes to see if I could be inspired by anything. The best research is to watch what the professionals have done (and I don't mean Bodie and Doyle). I came across the fairly new television show White Gold. I was instantly captivated by its plot, setting and the uniqueness of the way its delivered. It would break the fourth wall and speak to the audience as the protagonist Vincent Swan, as he goes along explaining his thought process. This is something that has been typically used in theatre and in sitcom Maranda. However, the way it is done is not cheesy, it actually comes across swerve and is very effective. The era in which it is set (early 1980's) is challenging today as you need to stay accurate to the time, with the exception of an artistic licence). Although some of the music used isn't all of the era since they merge in some 90s hiphop instrumental occasionally it still works really well. Other sho...
