Pre-Production: Brainstorming Ideas
To take our idea futher, me and Jack decided to brainstorm some ideas to try and work out what we are visually seeing. This was to help us with our sequence and order of events:
I think it would be interesting to have an introduction to this documentary with multiple clips from the news etc merging together all talking about stories. it starts with a report on just Liams case and then more and more cases build up over each other until they all stop and switch off in the style of an old tv. -ACCESS?
Potential Sequence:
Archive footage
Title comes on. ‘Britains Falsely Accused’
Opening- Inside the hall where Liam is on Stage talking in Innovation of Justice Conference. Slow zoom into stage.
Listen to what Liam has to say and then we go into vo “My name is Liam. Thats me on stage talking….. in 2017 I was falsely accused of rape.”
Opens with drone shots, outside police station playing with telephone recording of a police phone call.
Voiceover- Statistics about rape and people falsely accused. I want to know why this is something that remains an issue despite cases like my own proving there is something wrong.
Goes to speak to police about whybtheir have been so many failings in finding crucial digital evidence. Explore how helpful/credible such sources are.
Goes to speak to an IT wiz (potentially from the police).
Liam introduce himself, shots of him walking around campus
Liam Leads documentary and dives into genuine rape victims and people who have been done for fraud and other cases where the police have been incompetent. He goes into people falsely accused of stuff and also the polices incompetence. How their names tarnished and lives affected (struggle with trust and relationships).
Liam speaks to:
A criminal layer who has views on police evidence disclosure
A victim who’s case didn’t make it to trial
Someone falsely accuse and case prolonged or went to prison when innocent
“Police and prosecution lawyers fail to correctly disclose evidence in nearly half of cases”
Liam is the angle in and then we talk about the police problem
Digital footpriont is a way the police can now catch people but also proving their innocence.
DandA and Swabs at a crime scene it is 100% guarantee but with digital footprint how commutable is that? How can you prove X sent that to Y.
A film-like reconstruction which cleverly ties in with the interviews of the main character by using an actor within the reconstruction mimicking his expressions and the way he talks.
How do you prove that????
