As Live Production: Why chose 'As Live'
Less left to chance and true olive. More controllable and polished. The opportunity to re-record elements of the programme and to make improvements to the intro and closing shots
Energy live production has which we don't want to lose. Has the feel of real time with the feel of real time.
We can end up twisting to far and losing what we actually want. Truly live productions feel manufactured. Its this tension that can be hard to re-create.
Feel like we're creating something on the stage, something very different to film. In the post production far we want to make sure it doesn't feel too clinical or manufactured.
Jools Holland Hootenanny isn't actually filmed live despite it feeling like it is. Often used for panel shows, chat shows and entertainment.
As Live Formats:
Political- Question Time
Comedy- QI
Would I Lie To You
Usually recorded in studio- Require full studio floor. Often use VT inserts which offers us addd value or opportunity which isn't necessarily possible or affordable by the studio.
Audience:
What do they add, do we need them?
Audience helps create a certain energy and togetherness. It gives us a sense of character wether its a good person or a bad person, similar to theatre.
Decide where our audience sits- Dark, Passive Audience like in 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' which creates some tension.
Audience being there can add a reason to be there. It might mean they are linked to the set or take part.
Respond with laughter and clapping.
Will usually have a warm up act to get the audience in the mood for the atmosphere. Nothing is worse than having something that should be funny and an audience not laughing. What role the audience plays really depends on the format.
We are looking for good, entertaining characters.
