On vimeo, I was exploring lots of other documentary projects. As empasised in my pre-production unit, Vimeo is great to look at to find new and upcoming filmakers and new programmes that are allowed ot be as creative as they want without any strick broadcast control. In browsing content, docuentaries specifically I came across one with a subject matter simialr to our own in many ways. It was called 'DVI- The inside story'.  I thought this wsould be good to look at to see hwat I enjoy watching as a viewer and what I don't enjoy watching. It is easy to get carried away with your own project where you can't see what it looks like to what an audience memenr wiht fresh eyes would see. This documentary wasn't particularyl engaging, but this wasn't a bad thing for me. The trailer initially grabbed my attention but after warching I felt board already. In many ways this documentayr was too informative and by that I mean it had more to tell than to show. It was a case of just interview after interview and whilst this is useful, you need something to break this up wether it be a change in shot, a cutaway or even somethign as simple as archive. This is where I have realiised the importanc eof scene recreaions in building up the image in the viewers head. It is all well and good talking about court but what about actually showing a court room. The way the interviews were shot was nice with a shallow depth of fielf. It didn't have the cinematic look I hope to achieve with our documentary, but that wasn't the producers intentions. It was shot on a Canon 7D using a 50mm f1.8 and 35mm f/2. The DSLR is a camera we were origionally intending to use in the pre-produciton unit, but having researched futher I changed my mind.

This documentary is missing any color grade which takes away from its overall aesthetic. I would like to aim higher for our own documentary in maintainign a professional look.
