For this camera workshop we were all instructed to get into groups and have a go at shooting on location. We went outside to where the carpark was and set off filming. We were able to film anything we wanted, it just had to be a short film so we could have a go and see how different it is to film outdoors. I was directing/filming this, while Connor was acting, Melissa on sound and Danny was ensuring safety and organising vehicles if any were coming to disrupt the filming process. Because my style of filming involved sound being further away from the camera, Fergus gave us the chance to use higher end sound equipment which was separate to the camera. They would be saved as separate files. I then edited the film and uploaded to YouTube.
Editng trailer wasa difficult process with such limited video footage. However, having researched different Netflixtrailers, I found I genuinelely liked their style. One crucial part of this, however, is having the footage to produce this and this is something I would like to improve, so I am treating this as a trailer tester to see if the style works for our documentary and how I want it to look. So far I have only been able to use footage from 'The Innovation of Justice' Shoot and also archive photos and videos. Whilst these are elements I will include in the actual trailer, I would want more interview and scene recreation footage to make it better branded to our film. The Editing Process behind this was fairly difficult but after brainstorming some ideas and researching into other trailers form Netflix I found a style I liked and a lot of that style came mostly from the edit, the choice of footage and audio and editing style. As director, it was my job to sit-down with the editor and go over with them my vision behind the piece and how I would like it to be edited together. Me and Alex went over the edit together to see what we wanted put in place and where. Above is the final practice VT outcome. I think we really made the most of our location and used it to improve the stylistic qualities of the piece. However, there is a lot I would change for our final VT Shoot. The first being the setting. I would ideally like somewhere more appropriate to really show off the outfits and era. I would also ideally like to get more coverage, but because of time and problems in planning from our producer, I was left to improvise on the final shoot day with ideas. I knew roughly the sort of thing I wanted so it wasn't a complete issue and me and the producer worked well together in overcoming this. This is what practicing is all about and we have all learned form the mistakes here, which we will hopefully be ...
