Commission: Meeting With Helen

Today I was eager to improve on not only my blog work but also my commission piece. I thought it would be ideal to get a fresh pair of eyes on my work so far to notice any imperfections with my piece and throw some fresh ideas at me. I explained the problems I had experienced with Helen and how I planned on overcoming them. She threw back some more ideas at me and I made note of them, as experience through this unit has taught me just how important taking notes are as as soon as I leave the room I will forget.

What I learned about improving blogger:
Always include where I have my findings
Show how many hats I'm waring be it  journalist, writer research presenting -find sources of information to support research into these roles.

My commission piece:
For some ideas and inspiration in my commission piece, Helen told me it would be worth looking into the works of old shows that are being brough back or still current today, and how they use their heritage to their advantage. This included:
Top Of the Pops, look at branding history with icons you knew, flying records
Doctor Who- cant break but can update

Helen also suggested I overcome issues with archive footage by using rostrum photos effect
Include more actuality. I could show graphics of different shows and companies that have filmed at the studios.

Studios work with:
Children
Entertainment
Advertising
Promotion

List of all contributors etc.
Ducks quak dont echos
BBC Sport Relief
List of big clients over the past 10 years
Channel, name production company

Filming potential resolving:
Swoop past students with fig rig
People doing makeup
Scene dock
Live action, kicking. Studio needs to look alive and not dead. Mock up and doing roles such as working in gallery, moving stuff around and lighting rig.

I decided to send an email to Josh, the events manager and said:

Hi Josh,

Just wanted to clarify a few things with you, just getting together my shot list and really keen to paint a portrait of the studios and how lively an active they are, and the variety of expertise you can offer. In order to do this I am going to need to help with setting up some actuality. This could include people working in gallery, moving stuff around and rigging up lighting etc.

This is just a basic wish list, do you think its possible to help with any of this at all. When are you doing a de-rig for Take Me Out, would it be possible for me to come along and film this? If I have shots of the studios being empty I worry it wont look as active as what it is at its full potential.
Hope you can help, and sorry to keep bombarding you with questions.

Best Wishes,

George
