Commission: Meeting 1

Unfortunately todays meeting was duet to be quick between Laura and Carly, so I was to arrange a separate meeting next week. Because I was keen to resume my independent planning further, I decided to write up some questions for Laura to ask in her meeting.

  1. Is there any archive footage accessible for me to use? Have a look at the Heritage section of the website and you’ll find some historical clips from YouTube on there. (http://www.maidstonestudios.com/our-heritage)
  2. Is it possible to use any footage from shows filmed here such as Jools Holland and Take Me Out to include? You can use anything from social media & the TMO website, only from previous seasons though
  3. Is it possible to film inside the gallery whilst people are working on a show? Speak to Carly and Josh as they can try to arrange this for you.
  4. Is it possible to shoot the studio empty at any point between November and December? Also is it possible to have someone there available to set up the lights? Yes that should be possible, email Josh to book in.
  5. Am I able to film a studio set up time-lapse? If so what dates? Carly has footage of a time-lapse already for Jool’s that you can use.
  6. What are the rules on flying a drone around the studios? Any laws/restrictions? It has been tried before but the signal doesn’t pick up inside the building. Outside is fine but talk to me beforehand.
  7. With regards to the ‘lock-down’ what dates am I able to film? Again ask Josh but the rig dates for TMO are 14th-18th Nov and filming dates 19th-28th so get some time booked in asap.
  8. The Brief Questions
  9. What is included within the 75 second website banner? A looped video of the best edited down version of the main footage, to showcase and introduce the studios to the browser. Must be very slick & high-end! Focus on getting great footage first and then see if there’s time to make this edit.
  10. Is it possible to send me over a copy of the new studio logo? Yes, Carly will send you this.
Forbes Magazine quotes "Often tagged as ‘boring,’ ‘pointless,’ or just ‘wastes of time,’ we wondered why some meetings fail to offer any value". I would disagree with this stigma attached to meetings. I think they're beyond helpful and I personally would fully appreciate a meeting every week. Despite not being able to come to the first meeting, I still had loads of questions I needed answering i order to progress with my work. Whilst emailing Carly (my client) directly, I still found the idea of a face to face meeting important. Although it was my first client meeting and I would be nervous, its something I must learn to do, especial if wanting to become a freelance videographer.
I also feel if the client and worker meet in person they can get an impression of each other, and if they click, its even better for the project as both sides will be comfortable in sharing ideas.

I therefore used my answers in the meantime to plan my project further until eventually having a meeting with Carly next week. Hopefully this will be a good chance to trow my ideas at her. I will send through my treatment proposals for each of the videos once complete so she will have a chance to get her head around them and raise any questions or concerns in advance; preparation is key.
