Commission: Finding Music
Finding music for this piece was really tricky. The music chosen can effect the entire tone of the piece. I was a cross between having something motivational and something funky/electronic. Electronic-type music would work well to create excitement and good fast paces transitions which will hod the viewers attention for a short video.
I first attempted to edit the piece to Eminems Lose Yourself, A royalty free instrumental). This is a song familiar to most and is know for its motivational connotations. It did work for the piece but it still didn't give off the atmosphere I had initially hoped. Whilst the track worked well it didn't have enough beats in it to cut to. This made the video slow and potentially boring. I needed a song that few people are familiar with but will remember after watching this video. The two would be associated with each other.
I found a track by 'Mounikia' called 'One Two'. This song was really cool as it was electronic fused with the sounds of children chanting which was relevant to studios given a lot of children's shows are filmed there. This sounded really good but didn't have the energy I wanted, I was a little too calming. However, my time wasn't wasted as this lead me onto finding another song, who would be my final song Troplillaz-Baby Baby. This song had fast face, slow paced music and above all energy. Whilst listening to the song I could picture the promotional video in my head; it warlike it was made just for this video. Now it was a case of editing to the music. In my research into marketing I found it was good to listen to other peoples opinions but also to stay strong in your own. “Train yourself to help your client look beyond self-imposed limitations by focusing on asking your client to speak only in the clients own opinion, not in the opinion of friends, relatives…” (Anne Hart)
When showing to other people they did all seem to have mixed opinions on the music. This seemed to vary age to age. Older people thought it was too modern, but I feel electronic music suits this and I want to portray the studios as being modern.
