Pre-Production: Contacting Contributors- Jerry Hayes
Jerry Hayes is a criminal barrister specialising in high profile cases. He was former Conservative MP for Harlow from 1983 until 1997. He would have a tremendous link to this documentary and would bring a lot to it with his expertise/knowledge and he has previously been very outspoken about the topic of police negligence in court and not bringing vital evidence forward.
I took the step in approaching Jerry to see if his involvement in this documentary is something he would be interested in. He is well educated ion not only Liams case but the law in general and can bring to light misconduct and gross negligence in other cases. His background as Conservative MP will make him keen and outspoken as expressing views is something he is very use to and something he doesn't shy away from
Using his website, I made and enquiry and below is the email I sent:
Hi Jerry,
I hope you don't mind me contacting you. My name is George and I am a third-year student studying Television Production at Maidstone Studios. For my final major project myself and a classmate are producing a documentary that explores the implications of false allegations and the way in which police handle and have handled such cases. A big factor in this is people leaving a digital footprint and why with the access that the police/ prosecution have, they fail to identify usable evidence within them. A case which has attracted our attention the most was the Liam Allan case, who I believe you have spoken about before. We are currently speaking to Allan who is actually happy to lead our documentary. Myself and my colleague would both greatly appreciate it if you would be able to give an interview on camera talking about your views and the facts behind why you believe the courts have failed such cases.
The projected shooting period will be around February/ March time. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get back to me. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Hope to hear from you soon
Kind Regards,
George
Jerry was kind enough to respond to my email and we have now successfully got him on board since he has willingly agreed to take part in an interview. This is another fantastic step towards our documentary and the more contributors we get on board the realer it actually all becomes.
He was also very helpful in letting us film in the Temple Chambers which is his barristers. From the image below you can see this is a very highly regarded place, but makes a fantastic location. I should be able to get some really nice shots here.

The clips above and his interviews with Channel 4 where he is referring to Liams trial demonstrates how out spoken and well educated he is on the topic.
