News Production: Shoot day (Green Screening)
Todays green screen shoot was a success overall. The setting up process was time consuming as we wanted to be sure it was perfect in terms of lighting and positioning. Lighting was particularly important in a green screen shoot as we wanted to avoid any shadowing which although can be improved in post production, it wont always be as effective as getting it right first time.
After setting up the camera and lighting we began rehearsing my dialogue, with a simple line bash. We then moved onto actions and talking to the camera. Because we had only just changed the script, remembering my changed dialogue from what it was before was a bit of a bit tricky. However, after reciting out loud a few times I was able to pick it up.
For our DIY tech section I needed to explain the materials and process of creating a portable DIY Projector. This would be difficultly having not filmed this section yet, however after doing a practice test building it I was familiar with the tools and process. (See: ‘DIY Tech Practice’).
I was pleased with the outcome and I feel I kept it as relaxed and laid back as I could, which is what we needed for it. I was able to follow the script pretty closely, but also was able to generate new ideas along the way to improve to what felt more natural to me. This works better as it means it doesn’t sound and look so forced.
The next day we were green screening was of Jacks presenting in the studio. This took some time as Tom, our original presenter dropped out, so Jack took his place. This was an inconvenience to us which we were able to work around. In the end Jack did a very good job.
