Questions for student Nurses interview
!THIS INTERVIEW NEEDS TO BE 2 MINUTES EXACTLY!
Start with a PTC, presenter alone, say introduction and then walk over to first student nurse.
Introduction
George: “Thank you, Tom. I’m here at the Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham, with Emma, currently studying to be a nurse. Emma, how are you?”
Questions for first nurse
1. So, what does it take to become a student nurse?
2. How much placement work do you have to do as a student?
3. So, student nurses lost their bursaries last year, how has this effected the nurses?
4. How did the bursaries help the students when they were available?
5. These bursaries were cut because the Department of Health wanted more student nurses to be taken on, do you think this has worked?
6. If these bursaries could be brought back, do you think it would help the students more than the loans?
7. So, what’s the next career path for you? (assuming they’ll answer to be a junior nurse to help lead to next section)
George: “Well we’ve also heard that there are some issues with Junior medical staff as well, (move over to next nurse, ensure they have not been in shot and presenter walks over to them) so over here is _____, another student to talk to us about it. Hi ______ how’re you?”
Questions for second nurse
1. So, we found that junior doctors and nurses had some issues not long ago because of new contracts, is this a worry for student nurses?2. Are these issues with the Junior medical staff still occurring?
3. Do you think this will put Students off becoming medical staff?
4. So, if you could tell the Health Minister how you felt about these issues, what would you tell him?
George: “Well, thank you very much to you and Emma for speaking to us. (George turns to do PTC). So, we’ve heard it from the students themselves. Back to you at the studio Tom.”
We had these questions prepared based on what we wanted to know and initially planned for two nurses. However, one was called for interview at the time of our shoot which unfortunately clashed, so I had to work around this and mix the questions up to merge into one interview. These were the questions we all thought of and I used them as a template for my interview as backup questions; I wanted to try and make the interview feel as natural as possible by asking questions that feel right at the time, hopefully ones that lead on from previous questions so its linked.
